Top 5 Fun Things To Do In Japan With Kids

One of my New Year’s goals was to take my two girls on an Asia trip and I am so happy to report that I have accomplished that goal!

Joe and I planned an Asia trip with fun-filled activities for the family to kick off the end of the summer for our girls. Super late post, but we finally got some time to write about our adventures (which will be split into two posts, so make sure to check out the other post!). We went to Japan, Singapore, and Phuc Quoc.

What we enjoy most about Japan is its culture and all the ways it is expressed - from delicious foods that you can easily find at 7-11 to Kawaii art to strong traditional roots. We enjoyed adventuring through the cities, checking out different toy stores for the kids, eating until we couldn’t eat anymore, and diving into Japan’s culture.

Traveling with kids has always been a question in parents’ minds - can they do it and how? The answer is yes! So let me share the top 5 things we did in Japan that I would recommend if you have little ones!

Stays at Conrad

Before I get into the fun family-friendly activities, I want to shout out our beautiful stay at Conrad!

We were so happy to finally arrive at Conrad Tokyo after such a long flight. The cozy Japanese-inspired rooms with breathtaking panoramic views were exactly what we wanted! The location was also perfect for our planned activities in Tokyo.

We love Conrad so much that when we made our way down Japan, we stayed at Conrad Osaka. Again, the hotel is situated in the perfect location!

Joe and I probably appreciated the lovely interior design, elevated amenities, and decadent food options more while the girls were more interested in how much space they had to run around!

Conrad hotels continues to be one of our family favorite stays for overall comfortability, ideal vacation spots, and top-notch service. There’s nothing like coming back to a clean and relaxing space after a full day of adventures!

Unko Museum

A fun way to immerse yourself and your family in Japanese Kawaii culture is by experiencing the Unko Museum in Tokyo!

Here is where you can enjoy looking, touching, taking photos of, and playing with poop! This bright, fun, and interactive museum will leave your whole family in awe in Japan’s take of poop.

Tokyo Skytree

Another highlight of ours was viewing Japan from a high vantage point up on Tokyo Skytree.

Not only was the view spectacular, it was amazing to learn that Tokyo Skytree is actually a transmission of digital terrestrial broadcasting.

As if that’s not enough, it is also expected to serve as a tower with a disaster prevention function in times of natural disaster!

Universal Studios Japan (USJ)

We definitely had to check out Japan’s Universal Studios (which has been awarded TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice of Best of the Best 2023).

It was a unanimous vote that the Super Nintendo World was a family favorite! Even if you’ve been to other Universal Studios, it’s worth it to check out the one in Japan.

Everyone had so much fun here and you can literally spend a whole day here, so plan accordingly!

Sanrio Puroland Park

When you think of Japan, it’s hard not to think of the infamous Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters! If you are a huge fan like we are, then you definitely want to add Sanrio Puroland Park to your Japan bucket list!

The food, decor, and goodies were so kawaii that the girls couldn't stop raving about it (even until now!). We especially enjoyed the Kawaii Kabuki show!

Kirby Cafe

If you are a fan of Kirby, then you must check out Kirby Cafe! It’s actually located on the 4th floor of Tokyo Solamachi of Tokyo Skytree (you can check off two boxes in one stop!).

This whole experience is sure to surprise and delight everyone in the family. They offer the cutest foods that adorn custom cutlery inspired by your favorite Kirby character. There’s even a vegan and healthy menu for anyone interested. And of course merchandise that is sure to bring a huge smile across any fan’s face!

Honestly, it was really hard to just name five! We did so much as we traveled through Tokyo, Osaka, Shinijiku, and Shibuya. Japan is such an awe-inspiring place that you can grab food from anywhere, find a grassy spot, and enjoy people watching with the family - simply BE in Japan and soak up everything around you!

Let me know in the comments if you added any of these places to your bucket list or if you have any questions about traveling with kids! Be sure to check out my next post where I talk about Singapore and Phu Quoc!
